We’re on the hunt for a talented Product and Packaging Development Manager, or as we affectionately call it, Tony’s Development Manager, to join our passionate team in Amsterdam. As Tony’s Development Manager, your #1 goal will be developing new products and packaging for innovation and renovation projects, contributing to the growth and impact of our global Tony’s product portfolio.

In this exciting role, you’ll have the chance to explore and work across various chocolate segments, leveraging different production techniques and collaborating with our esteemed manufacturing partners. Additionally, you’ll establish and implement a robust product and pack development process. This process will serve as a framework to ensure the smooth and efficient execution of our projects. By integrating your expertise and effectively managing risk, you’ll play a vital role in driving our projects forward, ensuring their successful completion and aligning with Tony’s vision of delivering exceptional products to our valued customers.

Reporting directly to our Product Delivery Lead, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to shape the future of our products and make a tangible impact on the industry. Additionally, you will have the chance to lead and coach a small team to ensure their development. Here is what you will do:

• Deliver product and packaging for innovation and renovation projects across various chocolate segments, collaborating with different production techniques and manufacturing partners.
• Translate briefs from the Innovation & Renovation team into product and packaging attributes, infusing Tony’s magic to disrupt the category.
• Lead the technical development process from brief to launch, ensuring timely execution while meeting cost targets and business case requirements. In cases where alternative routes are necessary, you’ll ideate and develop those as well.
• Develop and uphold Tony’s packaging and product principles, working closely with key business partners to ensure their implementation throughout the team.
• Make sure that products align with Tony’s sourcing principles and quality standards by leading internal taste panels and conducting external testing when needed.
• Set out a product & pack development process to ensure smooth project execution.
• Manage risk in projects, collaborating closely with project managers and external partners such as co-manufacturers, co-packers, and suppliers.
• Provide coaching and leadership to a team of three product & packaging developers in a newly established team. Support them in addressing daily challenges and contribute to their long-term professional development.

The ideal candidate:

• Deep understanding of food science, chemistry, processing technology and/or packaging development. A background in product and/or packaging development in the FMCG is a must for this role.
• Experience generating and developing new ideas that result in commercially viable and successful product launches in the food and beverage industry.
• Ability to optimize work processes and implement the most efficient and effective development methodologies, guiding innovation from initial brief to final launch, from kitchen to factory.
• Experience leading and coaching small teams. If you don’t have direct people management experience, a willingness to gain experience in this area is essential.
• Ability to effectively lead and contribute to impactful and complex projects on a global scale.
• Availability to commute to our Amsterdam office on a weekly basis.
